Lanceolata from the Latin, lancea, meaning spear which refers to the often large first lobule tooth, a name chosen by Riclef Grolle who in 1994 first ecognised that this species was undescribed., Type: New Zealand, South Island, Canterbury, Kaikoura, Fyffe-Palmer Scenic Reserve, 45°19’8” S, 173°38’1” E, 400 m, Fuchsia excorticata – Melicytus ramiflorus forest, on greywacke boulder in stream-bed with Sematophyllum uncinatum, 29 Oct 1993, D. Glenny 4868 (holotype: WELT H9835).
