- The specific epithet venosusrefers to the leaf venation that is obvious and very pronounced on the abaxial surface, including the fine veinlets, and which distinguishes it from the other species in the M. obovatus complex., Holotype. New Zealand. Marlborough Sounds, Middle Trio Is, scrub, D.J. Campbell s.n., 3 Nov 1967 (CHR 596045!).
