Taxonomic Comment
Xanthomonas campestris pv. vitians (Brown 1918) Dye 1978b X. campestris pv. vitians is represented by two phenetically and genomically distinct bacterial populations (Vauterin et al. 1995). The pathotype (ICMP 336) was transferred to Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vitians, but the fact that this single strain differs uniquely from the other strains from lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) suggests that it may have been mis-labelled, or may have been inappropriately selected as the pathotype strain. All other strains are referred to X. hortorum.
