Taxonomic Comment
Looney et al, 2013, treat A. polytricha as a possible later synonym of A. nigricans (?=Exidia polytricha) and consider A. nigricans to be a New World taxon, supported by sequence evidence. However the type of A. polytricha is from India! The relationhip between A. polytricha sensu stricto and A. cornea (type from Mariana Islands) remains unresolved by this publication. Sequence data show a mixture of collections labelled polytricha or cornea in the same clade. [JAC]
