- Nomenclatural Comment
- Cheeseman (1925) noted that in A. perpusilla “the corolla tube is much shorter than is usual in Asperula, and the species would almost be better placed in Galium.” Perhaps influenced by this observation, Allan (1961) was the first to transfer the species out of Asperula, publishing the new combination Galium perpusillum (Hook.f.) Allan. This treatment was subsequently adopted by Webb et al. (1988). Following the recommendations of the morphological (Thompson 2009) and phylogenetic (Ehrendorfer & Barfuss 2014; Ehrendorfer et al. 2018) studies, Asperula is now accpted.
