The species epithet pallidum refers to the pallid, often grey-green tint of the leaves. The disused epithet sieberianum honours Franz W. Sieber, a widely travelled Czech plant collector who visited Port Jackson (Sydney region) in N.S.W. in 1823., Type material: Nova Hollandia s. loc. et s. coll., “Mr. Dickson 4, herb.
