- The epithet sciuroides means squirrel-like and refers to the distinctive aspect of Glyphothecium shoots. The shoot tips usually curve upward and away from the substrate in a manner suggestive of the curvature of a squirrel’s tail., Holotype: Tasmania, Musci Exot. 2: pl. 175. “In Insula Van Diemen, D.R.
