Nomenclatural Comment
The generic name means whole-toothed, and refers to undivided peristome teeth. At the time of the description of Dicranum sect. Holodontium Mitten’s diagnosis contrasted it with “D. sect. Eudicranum”, which were characterised by having wide and divided peristome teeth.
