- based on Amanita vaginata sensu Colenso, 1886, also G. Stev., 1962, p.p.; Amanita vaginata var. punctata sensu G. Stev., 1962, also G.M. Taylor, 1970; and Amanita vaginata var. umbrinolutea sensu G. Stev., 1962, p.p., Sequencing indicates Ridley's concept includes two taxa. One has brown lamellar edges in which hyphae form a band on the gill edge. The holotype has this feature. The second taxon (A. drummondii cf) has distinct brown pyrifom cheilocystidia (as figured in Ridley's 4f for Stevenson 969). Both taxa are associated with beech and tea-tree. [JAC]
