- Taxonomic Comment
- Synonymy with Neodidymelliopsis cannabis based on DNA sequence match between epitype culture/specimen of D. vitalbina (ICMP 13663, PDD 69378) and D. urticicola and N. cannabis. The DNA sequences from CBS 123707, a putative duplicate of ICMP 13663, is a different species, but referred to as D. vitalbina by Woudenberg et al. 2009. There is unliklely to have been a mislabelling/mixing of the cultures at ICMP; ICMP 13663 was originally stored as a freeze-dried culture in October 1998, transferred to liquid N on 29 Sept 2010; no other cultures being handled at the same time are candidates for having been mixed. Note that ICMP 15899 and ICMP 15898 do match D. vitalbina sensu CBS 123707; they were isolated from Clematis vitalba from NZ from two different sites, stored in ICMP in liquid N on 15 Sept 2005.
