Nomenclatural Comment
The epithet splachnoides is a confusing reference to the northern hemisphere coprophilous genus Splachnum. This may be partially explained by the fact that, at the time Neckera splachnoides was described, several Hedwigian species that were subsequently transferred to other genera were included in Splachnum., Type: Ireland. Not seen.
