Nomenclatural Comment
Allan (1961) treated N.Z. plants as S. nodiflorum. Henderson, R.J.F. 1988 argued that plants in New Zealand belong to the subspecies Solanum americanum subsp. nutans (R.J.F.Hend.) R.J.F.Hend. (1988). Manoko et al. 2007 shows that AFLP markers support separation of Solanum nodiflorum from Solanum americanum sensu stricto. Manoko et al. 2007 also merged subsecies nutans into S. nodiflorum.
